Amwriting Adventure, Aysgarth Falls #AtoZchallenge

The adventure – a month’s worth of blogging exploring my writing, research and editing.
Aysgarth falls is a place in one of my novels.  Since these novels are going to get published, and turned into films, being mindful of locations is important.  Aysgarth is already well known and caters well for tourists.  Tee hee…  See, I’m being positive and believing, sort of.
Think about England, Northern England, Yorkshire, a dale within Yorkshire called Wensleydale. The River Ure, as it meanders through Aysgarth in Wensleydale, takes a dramatic route down a wonderful geological site known as Aysgarth falls.  I’ve been there when there’s little water and you can wander along and when there’s torrents of water and you can hear it way before you see it.

Britain’s waterfalls are wonderful and this one melts my heart, mainly because the memories of being there with loved ones and I used to go there when I needed some solace.  In ‘Holiday stories’ John, the main character, takes some visitors there and we find out a bit more about the wider family when the two children are able to wander and explore the outdoors and their own different reactions to it.
My AtoZchallenge posts are about writing, parts of my novels or some research I need to do for them.  I’m not allowing myself to write about anything other than topics linked to the books, my books.  The current titles that I’m writing about are ‘Bags’, ‘Holiday stories’ and ‘Dream gardener’.

  1. I enjoyed seeing your post come up on the Twitter feed on the AtoZChallenge site…and jumped in and clicked! Well done. I’m in Malaysia, but lived in Hampshire and the Midlands for 14 years or so (originally American) and your words and descriptions take me longingly back. My work is on the Crimean War, with the England part in Worcester and Malvern. Good luck with yours and happy A-to-Z-ing. /cynthia

    • Thanks Ruby. Had to sketch from memory so huge artistic license being used in my posts this year! Last year my reflections AtoZ post was done AtoZ and it took him to L I think before he realised so had to do his tribute similar.
      Here’s to us getting through this month unscathed..

    • Thanks! Strong theme? I’m trying to get my novels done at same time and only allowed myself to do AtoZ if it helped edit.. not sure that’s working out for me yet.. hotchpotch is my usual style so I’m challenging in my challenge.. hmm.. might need a rethink.
      Looking forward eh? No pressure then.. must go sketch..

    • oops sorry, it wasn’t an intentional April fool. I have to be as positive with myself as I can or I crumble and don’t believe I can do anything. It was a bit of positive reinforcement.
      Glad you think I describe beautifully. Not much descriptive in my novels.. might need to add a bit more. thanks for commenting Anne. I will on yours when t’internet calms down.

      Thanks for visiting Nicky! The dale’s one of my favourite places. I feel very lucky to have lived there for a few years. Glad you like the post. If I don’t get more pics sketched today it’ll be a short challenge..

      • You’ll do it, I know! RE comments ~ sometimes if there’s errant coding in a post, the comment line up goes weird. In your dashboard, try going to Settings > Writing and check the box that says “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically”. Since I did that, I haven’t had problems with my comments! XX You might need to hit update on the post after you’ve tried this ~ I hope it works!

  12. Just wanted to stop by and say hello. I’m not doing AtoZ this year. New baby is enough distraction at the moment.
    I’ve been up to Yorkshire, well, Leeds anyway. I usually go the other way to Cheshire cause I have friends in the area and my brother is in Manchester.

    • Thanks! There’s lots of waterfalls, many hidden and you have to talk a short walk to most and they’re mini, I assume, compared with the rest of the world waterfalls but subtle, charming and wonderful.

  16. Dales are wonderful and our waaterfalls while not on the scale of Victoria or Niagara Falls but spectacular/ beautiful in their own uniquely British way – good start to the challenge all the best:)
