Holiday stories, a novel by me #AtoZchallenge

Each one of us is different person with different people in our lives.  What if they all converge in one place, over one week, for different reasons?  John, (or Jack.. I think Jack might work as a better name for him..) a solicitor and normally in full control, has to put his life back together following a trauma.  One year on from the event he takes a holiday, becomes host to numerous friends and family, all in need of Johns help and support when, in reality, John is the one who’s being healed.

The end

See, you don’t need to read it now.  That paragraph summed the whole novel up in 4 easy sentences.  Is that enough to make you want to read it?  Probably not..  Ok, I need to jazz it up a bit..

The thing is, I wrote ‘Holiday Stories’ because I wanted to prove I had a book in me and write a novel was on my ‘to do’ list for 2010.  I ‘to do’d it sure enough but still haven’t finished the editing.  There’s whole chunks that need adding, taken away and moved, let alone rewritten.  It also set me off on this adventure of writing, wanting to write more and more and getting more ideas as I went.  Holiday storied was inspired by a week I had on holiday in a caravan with all sorts of visitors popping by on different days for  completely different life issues and the person who got helped the most was me.  That’s as close as any of the characters, locations or storylines go to the novel.

My AtoZchallenge posts are about writing, parts of my novels or some research I need to do for them.  I’m not allowing myself to write about anything other than topics linked to the books, my books.  The current titles that I’m writing about are ‘Bags’, ‘Holiday stories’ and ‘Dream Gardener’.

  1. Hi Lynne. Sounds like another really nice idea for a story and, as I’m sure you are aware, it really doesn’t matter that you’ve given us a summary of the novel – the destination isn’t always important, it’s the journey that makes up most of a novel. Having said that, I’m sure the holiday destination is important to Jack/John! 😉

Keep up the good work, Lynne.

  2. Oh that , ‘book in me’ thing that leads to an entire other life on the side. First books are hard to edit… I think I was through book 6 before I saw the way past my thinking flaws and I still haven’t edited that first book. Good luck!
