Want Raunchy or romance? Better read another writer..
My dream was to write romantic comedy, that would be turned into romcom films, which I’d then watch in the cinema, that I’d hire for the private screening with my girly friends. Yes, I have a vivid imagination.
Once the first novels were written, I realised there wasn’t much romance in them (see K as I struggle to write love scenes..) and there wasn’t much humour. Oops.. I’ve since tried not to get hung up on genre and enjoy the writing process after all this is my hobby. It’s not like I’m trying to make a living out of writing. Yeah, sure there’s the dream but I know that’s never going to happen so I’ll keep on writing, practicing and maybe work out how to bring a bit more romance in and make if funny…
What I do write is relationships, family relationships and interactions between many different friendships. Genre? I’ve no idea these days and will keep going because I have to and want to see how these relationships develop what the characters do when faced with different family situations and where the stories takes me.
Raunchy romantic relationships, I doubt I can offer those, family/friends relationships and resolutions there will be.
My AtoZchallenge posts are about writing, parts of my novels or some research I need to do for them. I’m not allowing myself to write about anything other than topics linked to the books, my books. The current titles that I’m writing about are ‘Bags’, ‘Holiday stories’ and ‘Dream Gardener’.
There’s plenty of raunchy romances out there. For myself, a good, light romance is nice to enjoy every now and then.
Thanks Patricia. Not sure I can even get the light romance in but I’ll try..
Stop worrying about the genre, Lynne! Sounds like you are writing interesting stories with rounded characters and (most importantly in my opinion) Emotional content! As long as you care about your characters, your reader will. To quote Billy Shakespeare, ‘Be to true to thine own self.’

See, now you’re shouting at me.. all my mates get frustrated at my worrying eventually.. tee hee..
OK got to keep writing and editing and stop worrying.. what was my W again? Oops might need to change it to worrier extraordinaire..
After 50 shades I never want to read another raunchy book it was awful.Your book sounds great just keep doing what you’re doing.
Is Anyone There
Thanks! Will do!
I think books about familes and relationships that aren’t strictly romance have a wider audience anyway. I wouldn’t worry too much about genre, just focus on writing first and foremost.
Rinelle Grey
Thanks Rinelle. These AtoZ comments are beginning to sound like my mates.. hey you are my mates.. my writer mates so I shouldn’t be surprised by hearing the same thing.. “Lynne just write, finish and stop worrying & procrastinating…” oops! tee hee.. xx
