snowdrops = spring?

If recent years are anything to judge by I now expect a good dash of snow when my snowdrops arrive. They’ve been out for about a week now and managed to peek through the ice. The snow’s not here yet but I’ve got my boots ready and am looking forward to doing some snow sculptures.

Although it’s a bit chilly, I have the backdoor open for the first time this year and am watching the robin feeding on my patio amongst the starlings, blackbirds, finches and sparrows.

Is spring here or are we about to fall into a harsh winter mid February.  I’ve no idea but, for now, I’ll enjoy my garden with the snowdrops being the first flowers to show off so far this year.

ps I’m practicing my sketches as I’m in the middle of doing twenty-six for April.. Be patient and I hope I get better..

Early theme reveal for #atozchallenge

It’s early in the morning on February 5 2014. I started my April AtoZ blogging challenge preparation on February 3 2014. All atoz blogging challenge posts have titles, nine need words, eight need more words and they’ll all need a final edit and proof-reading. One needs the sketch finishing and twenty-three need sketches. Not bad for 7am on day three of preparing them.

It’s february, getting close to valentines day and I’m hoping I’m not drawn to posting on that day again this year.  Instead I thought I’d reveal my April AtoZ blogging challenge theme.. I know it’s two months away but I don’t like surprises much and prefer to get it out there.. Besides it helps me to check where I am as this year I’ve got lots on in April and don’t want to fail on posting or checking out others posts and commenting.

If you’re a blogger and haven’t done the AtoZchallenge before, check it out. You’ll meet lots of fabulous people and learn loads too. There will be things you learn about yourself and your writing as well as enough trivia to fill numerous pub quizzes. I’m always amazed at what interests me when the author is full of enthusiasm for their topic.

My theme this year is ‘I feel….’ Linked to thoughts of characters emotions and behaviours, I want to be better at showing not telling and to do that I need to explore stuff. What I don’t want to do is depress myself while writing these posts so I’ve tried, where possible, to pick positive forceful words.. ooh forceful.. that’s a good one for f,  positive’s a good one for p. I was going for perseverance but might change that to positively persevering or positively persistent.  Undecided and constantly changing come to mind too.

Don’t think you have to plan and prepare this early if you’ve not yet signed up.  I’m usually writing my posts and sketching to the wire and this is the first time I’ve been under 200 in the linky list.  I’m very excited that I’m 18 in the linky list but expect that means I need to be more professional in my approach since I’m brushing blog lines with the grownups that are the co-hosts.. Like that’s going to happen. There’s less than 550 signed up as I type so take a look, jump into the challenge (in case you missed any of the earlier links to the pages) and I’ll see you, having fun, in April.

ps I’ve tried to add a badge to the header but struggled so you’ve got the standard images as heading here.  Sorry I think I’m a bit challenged on the images with this challenge.. 😉

Oops. Might have underestimated my #atozchallenge

While others are saying they’re not doing the Blogging from A to Z challenge this year, so they can focus on their Work In Progress (WIP), I like hundreds of others, have already signed up.

This will be my third year and I’m already looking forward to meeting new bloggers, having my own blog invigorated and reading and learning some amazing things during April. One month when, I now know, I have guests. That’s doable, right?  It’s not like I have any other things I’ve committed my time to.

2014 is my year to finish a novel. That means editing every day, including every day in April.. hmm..

Yes, of course I want to do open art studios this year. With new work? Of course..

*light bulb moment*

light bulb

I have a week off work to catch up with life and can use that to write all my AtoZ, edit as much as possible and paint a picture or two ready for open studios in June. And.. as the light bulb glows brighter, each A-Z post can include a watercolour sketch that will be a new painting for the open studios exhibition.  Noticed anything yet?

Day one of my hols. This morning.

I did a simple sum:

A-Z = 26/7days left of my hols = 3.714285714285714 (compliments of my computer calculator..)

That’s four posts per day, every day, till I go back to work.  Excluding this one or any others I might want to post this week.

I may have to rethink my challenge, but those of you who know me at all will know that once I give myself a challenge I rarely shy of it, so here goes day one of my personal holiday A-Zchallenge. Better work out my theme and find my watercolours. I’ve got a few blog posts to write, paint and schedule, A-Zchallenge here I come.
