This is my fourth year of doing the AtoZ Blogging Challenge. I have the AtoZ to thank for stretching my sketching ability and giving me the confidence to sketch outdoors, in public and be confident about what I produce. The first year I included a couple of drawings, the second year I drew for each post though small and nothing from life. Last year I went big, each sketch was A3, though few were from life. This year I’m introducing you to my benches and the views from them plus a few other sketches I’ve done from life. All sketches, when they eventually appear, have been drawn since last years AtoZchallenge and there might be a photo or two I’ve taken as my drawing time has been limited over winter.
On 28 August 2014, with spare art bag in hand, I left work at lunch time and went and sat on a bench to do a bit of sketching. Any bench, Anytime, Anywhere is a tribute to that first bench that was free for me to sit on. I passed a few before I settled on this one. The others were all taken but this one was free so I sat and sketched wondering what I’d achieve. Spoiler alert: The view I drew from this bench will be posted at F for first in about a weeks time along with the fortieth and fiftieth..
Having sat on this functional and very practical bench the next thing I knew I was hooked on benches, sitting on them watching the world go by and particularly sketching whatever passed in front of me.
My AtoZ Blogging Challenge is all about sketches I’ve done this past year and some benches I’ve met along the way. Most but not all of the sketches were done from benches during my walk to work and around town where I shop.
