Drawing Dogs #AtoZchallenge

A break from my bench view sketches but I’m pretty pleased with the dog sketches I did this year. This post isn’t about dogs which draw but about how I love drawing/sketching dogs..

In the past year I found a skill I never realised I had. One dog (above) got a bit impatient with me as I was practicing my craft… For last years AtoZ challenge I did larger sketches and when we had open studios shortly after the AtoZ challenge I sketched my friends dog (pic below). Little did I realise how quick I’d manage to sketch her. She was a very good subject mainly due to one of her family eating while she watched on. I sketched as quick as I could so she didn’t have to wait too long for her treat.

I love drawing dogs with floppy ears and shaggy coats. The pencil sketches take about 5 minutes then I work on the colour and final lines later and don’t need the dogs to pose at that point.

These pictures make me smile when I remember the events and how much I loved drawing the dogs.

My AtoZ Blogging Challenge is all about sketches I’ve done this past year and some benches I’ve met along the way. Most but not all of the sketches were done from benches during my walk to work and around town where I shop.
