Seeing me sketching brings out the humorous and playfulness of some. It’s also introduced me to some very kind people and I’ve seen lots of kindness while I’ve been observing that which passes in front of me. Here’s a sketch that shows lots of kindness and could/should have had someone pulling a silly pose right in front of me.. if only they’d arrived a bit earlier or I’d started a bit later.. what a difference a few moments sometimes makes.
That story has gone into history.. sort of.. A friend from work saw me painting and decided to pull a funny shape in front of me thinking I might sketch them. They’re convinced they did this for about 5-10 minutes before giving up and coming right up to me, shouting my name which was when I finally ‘saw’ them. All I could say about why I’d not noticed them was ‘Did I have my pencil or paint brush in hand as you approached?’ The reply was ‘paintbrush’ ‘Ahh.’ I said.
Basically, if I have my paintbrush in hand you’re too late to get added into the sketch regardless of what silly pose or how long you stand in front of me. The likelihood is that I’ll be deep into zone with colour and not even notice you’re right in front of me. If I have my pencil in hand however, you take that risk, as a local vicar did one Saturday (pic above), and a friend did another time (pic below), that I’ll include you if you choose to pull a pose in front of me.
If you choose to kid around in front of me while I have my pencil in hand I might be kind enough to keep you in the picture.
My AtoZ Blogging Challenge is all about sketches I’ve done this past year and some benches I’ve met along the way. Most but not all of the sketches were done from benches during my walk to work and around town where I shop.
