What does it mean, to be creative, to create? Surely everyone creates something during their lives. A home, a meal, a family sometimes. Then some of us might create by making music, singing, playing a musical instrument, writing, gardening, woodwork, knitting, making clothes, not to forget pottery, art and drawing. Some may even create most of those or have during our lives.
There’s a little plaque in my house given to me by my family which says “creative clutter is better than idle tidiness”. Anyone who enters the small house I live in seems to find that amusing. If you’ve not got space for a studio and you paint it has to go somewhere surely..
And then there’s the comments from AtoZ. I usually have everything prewritten and prescheduled. Not this year. It’s seat of pants time. Which allows me to adjust my posts accordingly depending on what people say. Thanks to those who liked my tutorial for B which has left me thinking I’ll carry on sketching vegetables.. Here’s my version of sketching cabbage and carrots.. as you do.

Cabbage and Carrots
Less than 30 minutes for the complete sketch. Yes, I’m sure it does show but I say that it doesn’t matter what it looks like or how long you have, you can always find time to practice drawing. Yes I’m talking to myself again. Last year I found out how important drawing is to me and my wellbeing then I’ve hardly drawn at all this year and am glad to have this excuse to get drawing again. Now what’s for D? Are the dandelions out? Ahh I’ve got an interesting daffodil that’s appeared in one of my pots.. Maybe? We’ll see. Tatty’s for now. Off to see what everyone else has posted.
My AtoZ Blogging Challenge is all about err, I had every post topic then I changed my mind, it was going to be about Peterborough Cathedral since that’s my current obsession. This year I have no theme..
Even if you’ve not enjoyed reading this post why not see what others are doing too during 2016 AtoZ Blogging challenge. I look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow though I have little idea of what it will say..
Hi, visiting from the A to Z. Love your cabbages and carrots. I was going to do some drawings for my a to z then felt pathetic and anxious about sharing pathetic attempts. Years ago I read Drawing on the right side of the brain, and it uses what you describe, ‘pure contour drawing’, drawing without looking at the paper. I really enjoyed learning new skills but have not drawn anything in years and keep thinking of doing some, but never getting around to it. But I like the idea of drawing veggies:-)
Thanks Martine.
Get you drawing! it doesn’t matter what you think about them, just do it, that alone frees up the anxiety and self criticism. Want to see some pathetic attempts? Check out my first AtoZ back in 2012 and the sketches I posted that year. I’ll keep practicing and not criticising what I come up with and hope other’s don’t too much either.. find a vegetable and pick up that pencil 🙂
Hi Lynn, your image and the word creative drew me in! I am a creative person too! You have a smooth flow in your sketches! Great going! Cheers 🙂
@KalaRavi16 from
Relax-N-Rave
Thanks Kala. I’ll keep going but it’s going to be hit and miss..
Not having a theme gives you freedom, and there’s a lot to say about freedom to create at will. Love the sketch, particularly since my best would be something like stick figures, so nice to see this. Great saying re clutter.
Glad you like the sketch Silvia.
I find it easier and quicker to have a theme. Too many ideas all the time if I give myself an ounce of freedom. It’s been interesting to see what I come up with at short notice and with little time to sketch each though.
What a lovely idea Lynn. My mind is already jumping to x. Is that a bit unfair? As you know I love your drawings. I have no carrots at the moment. Will something crinkly do?
Mary x
Thanks for popping by Mary. Can’t think of a veg beginning with x but do have a random idea for it. Something crinkly’s always good to sketch x
Alway love your pictures – and fun to see the development over the years. If you haven’t done any for a while, it doesn’t show!
thanks Jemima. Can rely on you to see the good in me 🙂
I like the darwing. Looks like it should be in a cookbook.
The drawing, too. XD
Thanks John. I’ll keep that comment. I’d want to write the book too though and my track record’s not brilliant at finishing any book I start.. Will keep trying though. Thanks for popping by.
I like the way you colored them, very nice 🙂
Thanks Wendy. There should be lots more veg sketches appearing during the month. Gotta love the variety of AtoZ..
I wish I could complete a drawing a day! That is very ambitious!
It didn’t seem ambitious when I started. Drawing each day’s the easy bit for me. Posting and visiting others has been the challenge.
